Exercise 1: Literature search

Spend 15 minutes on this exercise working with your group

As a group, choose a topic for a literature search. You may come up with your own, or use one of the examples below. It is an advantage if someone on the group knows something about the topic.

a) Agree on a search string (words to put into the search engine). Find scientific papers about your topic using Scopus or WebOfScience and Google Scholar. How many papers do you find using each search engine?

b) Refine your search using the the refinement tools on both search engines. Can you narrow down to manageable number of papers? If yes: good. If no: try to make your search terms more specific.

c) The next steps would be to read through all the titles of your search results after narrowing down, and then read all the abstracts of the papers with compelling titles. To save time, we are skipping this today.
